The project consists of seven research objectives (O1 – to carry out archaeological-chronological contextualization of ten Roman period sites (cemeteries) from Croatia, O2 – to reconstruct general health, O3 – to determine individual’s lead levels and potential impact of lead on subadult health, O4 – to define dietary habits and possible introduction of new foodstuffs into the everyday diet, O5 – to reconstruct population structure, migrations and their possible association with the spread of infectious diseases, O6 – to integrate the results from the various disciplines in a common framework following a synergistic approach, O7 – to disseminate the results of the project to the professional and general public). The successful implementation of these goals will be achieved through the combination of five complementary work-packages: WP1 (post-excavation archaeology), WP2 (conventional bioarchaeology), WP3 (carbon and nitrogen stable isotopes analyses), WP4 (lead analysis), WP5 (ancient DNA and pathogen DNA analysis).
